Walter Rudolph

b.1917

Walt was born on Parsons Lane in Port Norris in 1917. After graduating from Port Norris High School in 1936, he attended business school. In 1939, he took over an Esso Gas Station on the corner of Main Street and Memorial Avenue in Port Norris.  In 1949, Walt expanded his business, starting the town’s first television sales and service business, Esso TV Service. In 1961, he sold the station, but continued to do television repair work, making housecalls until his retirement in 1985.

Walt was happily married his wife Katherine for 53 years, until her passing in 2005.  They have three daughters.

Walt takes great pride in his role as a business owner in Port Norris. His business survived through the town's leanest years after the collapse of the oyster industry in the 1950's. He remains active, collecting and repairing pocket watches and clocks. On November 21, 2010, Walt Rudolph was recognized as a Living Legend of Port Norris.
