Samuel T. "Doc" Day was born March 24, 1891 in Port Norris. He attended Millville oublic schools, then two years at Dickinson College at Carlisle, PA. He went on to study medicine at The MEdical College of Virginia in Richmond, followed by an internship at Northwestern General Hospital in Philadelphia. During the first World War, Doc Day was a first lieutenant in the Medical Corps with the American Expeditionary Forces, serving in France in 1918 and 1919. In May of 1919, he opened a private practice in Port Norris. In 1969, the Medical Society of New Jersey presented Doc Day with the Golden Merit Award for having been a practicing physician for half a century.
