William Dallas

Port Norris was formerly known as "Dallas' Ferry" after William Dolles Dallas, a farmer who found that he could float cordwood up the Delaware River to Philadelphia. He established a ferry business and soon added hay farming and shipping. After Dallas’ death in 1784 his son Jonathan (1762-1848) sold the area to

He was married to Rebecca Lore (1738-98) with whom he had one son, Jonathan, and four daughters, Ann, Sarah, Rebecca, and Millicent.

On November 16, 2008, William Dallas was recognized as a Legend of Port Norris.
